Laboratories
Takasago R&D Center
The Takasago plant, located in the Harima Coastal Industrial Area, blessed with the Seto Inland Sea's mild climate and Kakogawa River's abundant water resources, has a long history as the birthplace of our company. In 2021, the Takasago R&D Center was established as a new research base within the Takasago Plant.
The Takasago R&D Center has a laboratory where table tests are conducted and a test production facility for scaled-down wet nonwoven manufacturing at the plant. The Takasago Plant is well equipped to smoothly conduct research and development of our mainstay products, such as support materials for water treatment membranes and battery separators, at a single location.
We are also engaged in the development of new products using the dry nonwoven fabric production facilities newly started at the Takasago Mill and the search for high-functional wet nonwoven fabrics such as super heat-resistant sheets, based on the belief that we should develop products with an eye to the future of the Company.
Kyoto R&D Center
Just a few minutes' walk from the center of the city in Nagaokakyo is the Kyoto Mill of Mitsubishi Paper Mills, which houses the Kyoto R&D Center. Nagaokakyo City is associated with the Nagaoka-kyo Capital, which was built by Emperor Kanmu after he relocated the capital from Heijo-kyo. The predecessor of Kyoto Mill was Kyoto Photo Factory, established in 1938, which was acquired by Mitsubishi Paper Mills in 1944 and became Kyoto Mill.
The Kyoto R&D Center has produced many products such as photographic printing paper, printing plate materials, and photo-inkjet paper based on the silver halide photography technology, photosensitive resin technology, and fine pigment dispersion technology that have been cultivated over the years. Recently, we have been developing our own new, distinct products in growing fields such as electronics using these basic technologies and highly clean water-based and solvent-based coating equipment capable of simultaneous multilayer coating. We have also currently moved our focus on the healthcare field and are actively encouraging collaboration to respond to the changing external environment.
Hachinohe Development Office
The Hachinohe Development Office is engaged in product development based on paper and pulp at the Hachinohe Factory(Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture), one of the largest mills in Japan that consistently mass-produces paper and pulp products from wood chips.
In addition to offset and other conventional printing methods, our main product, printing paper, was one of the first to respond to digital printing, and we have introduced industrial-use inkjet paper to the global market. Pulp and paper, an old and new material that is recyclable and recently being reevaluated as a "carbon neutral"material from the perspective of the SDGs, is attracting attention for its use in containers and packaging as a substitute for plastic and in various industrial applications. Now, we are accelerating product development in this area.
Fuji Development Office
The Fuji Development Office is located in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Fuji, which was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2013. It is long-historied research and development center that has been responsible for the research and development of specialty paper for over 80 years since its establishment in 1943.
The Fuji Development Office is currently working on the development of masking tape base materials used in the painting of building materials and automobiles, which are the Fuji Plant's main products. The office also aims to be a leader of niche products in various industries, such as highly heat-resistant inorganic fiber sheets, sterilized paper used in packaging for medical equipment, and base paper for melamine decorative panels used in office furniture and interior materials.
