Sustainability [Actions for the Environment]
Environmental Charter
The Mitsubishi Paper Mills Environmental Charter was established in April 1993. Subsequently, the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol to prevent global warming began in 2008, and in 2010, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) was held in Nagoya. Interest has grown even more. In order to respond to changes in the social situation regarding global environmental issues, we revised the Mitsubishi Paper Mills Environmental Charter in July 2010.
Environmental Charter
- Basic Philosophy
- We aspire to be a corporate group that can actively contribute to protecting the global environment and build a recycling-oriented society. To this end, the Group will not only strive to help prevent global warming and preserve biodiversity, but also to earn the trust of all its stakeholders through the sustainable use of forest resources.
- Basic policies
- Implement measures to counteract global warming
- Protect and nurture forest resources with consideration for biodiversity conservation
- Promote the sustainable use of resources
- Develop environmentally friendly production technologies and products
- Improve environmental management systems
- Enhance environmental communication
- Draw up appropriate contingency plans
Revised July 2010.
Environmental Management System
Our group will implement a new environmental management system starting April 2023 in order to achieve the basic philosophy of our Environmental Charter. The newly established Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance Department within the Technology Headquarters at the head office will oversee environmental management within the group, and we have established a system for more swift and accurate compliance with laws and regulations, information sharing, and horizontal deployment. Depending on the situation, the head office takes the lead in handling group-wide issues, and has established a management system that integrates the headquarters with factories and affiliated companies.
Additionally, we have established a safety and environmental management office at each factory, creating a system that can immediately respond to environmental accidents.
Global warming countermeasures
The Mitsubishi Paper Mills Group formulated “the Mitsubishi Paper Mills Group Environmental Vision 2050” to contribute to the Japanese government's long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Environmental Vision 2050
The Mitsubishi Paper Group aspires to achieve carbon neutrality through,
- Maximum utilization of resources such as renewable energy
- Utilizing carbon capture technology
- Developing environmentally friendly products
Through these efforts, we aim to achieve carbon neutrality and contribute to the Japanese government's long-term goal of “realizing a decarbonized, carbon neutral society by reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero overall by 2050.”
